An improvisation and creative text exploration class that focuses on movement practices to help connect our thinking heads with our thinking bodies.
Through movement exercises drawing from hip hop, contemporary, Africana dance techniques, the class explores ways to draw out authentic movement when working with text.
The class will be led by multidisciplinary artist Isaac Ouro-Gnao and will explore ways to integrate movement and text through working with existing works of creative writing – from song lyrics and poetry to play and screen texts.
Participants will gain the skills to first unlock their bodies in preparation to create movement that directly translates text, movement that mirrors text, and movement that enhances text. This will create better understanding on how physical choices can impact the effectiveness of text.
